Work wasn't too bad today after the holiday. I did have an unusually large amount of e-mails after a week off, but nothing too catastrophic.

Decided to order a 2gb DIMM for the HP. It works reasonably well with 1gb but I'm sure that 2gb will help and RAM is so cheap these days it's worth doing. Apparently replacing the hard drive with an SSD can also make it run better and cooler but they are still not that cheap. The rugged aspect of the SSD is also a good point but it does have the motion activated hard drive parking sensor that seems to be quite common these days. I forgot that was there until I picked it up too suddenly and the hard drive activity light went red.
