It's been a rather geeky day to be honest. Spent the morning doing some work on a couple of my laptops.
The Toughbook CF-18 was treated to a new 160gb hard drive which is faster and quieter. The D630 was pulled apart and checked over to see why it blue screens occasionally. Put new thermal gunk on the CPU and chipset and will see how it goes. It's not the RAM as I put the DIMMs into another machine and that one has no issues with them. The old but nice D800 was stripped down and had thermal gunk applied to the processor before it was reassembled with a new keyboard and set up with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 on the 40gb hard drive out of the Toughbook. It now has a German language operating system and keyboard, which is proving interesting. One side effect is that every single word I write in English is highlighted as a spelling error...
While doing all this, watched some classic 80's movies - The Fly, Wargames and Robocop.
In the evening, put the doubleneck back together as the paint was dry. It went back OK and the new pickups sound good. It does however need new strings and a good setup, but so far it looks quite promising. Unfortunately there's an area on the end of the body where I managed to not get any paint. It's not too visible but is still really annoying.
