Computer hot-rod

It's fun to hack around with older computers and make them run better.

Just worked out at last how to replace the BIOS on the Latitude D800 with the one from the Precision M60. The two machines are pretty much the same but the D800 for some gimpy reason only runs the RAM at 266mhz, while the M60 runs it at 333mhz. The RAM I've installed in the D800 is capable of that speed so I have been meaning to swap the BIOS for ages, but 0nly just now worked out how it's actually done.

The D800 now thinks it's a Precision M60 and is noticeably quicker. I don't know why Dell did that, the Inspiron 8600, Latitude D800 and Precision M60 all use the same basic chassis and motherboard, but only the D800 has the slower RAM.
